2022 Sustainability Report: 100% digital, externally verified and with 6 informative videos
The Annual Report, published through the microsite memoria2022.sigaus.es, offers a detailed analysis of SIGAUS’ activity over the past year, in an exercise of transparency regarding its economic, environmental and social performance. As in previous editions, the publication has followed Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, the most prestigious international framework for the preparation of this type of report, applying the most recent version (in force since 1 January 2023) which requires higher quality information and adaptation to other international initiatives or regulations.

The SIGAUS Sustainability Report is the main publication through which SIGAUS provides its annual accounts, offering detailed information to its stakeholders about the work carried out during the previous year. This report not only provides a comprehensive analysis of waste oil management and achievements in 2022, but also highlights the good results regarding its environmental and social performance, which are part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy. Within this context, the central theme of this Report, in line with the branding campaign launched this year by the organisation, revolves around #TheGoodNews, a slogan highlighting the positive impact on the environment and on society of the work carried out by SIGAUS every year.
Analysis of 2022 from a threefold perspective
The Report has been structured into three blocks providing an exhaustive analysis of SIGAUS’ activity during 2022 from three complementary perspectives: economic, environmental and social.
The ‘Economic Performance’ section offers, not only information on the entity's organisational and governance structure, along with the players involved in the waste oil management cycle, but also an analysis of the lubricant market situation during 2022. Furthermore, fundamental issues such as the SIGAUS financing system or the traceability of waste are addressed, highlighting the key role of the SIGAUS Technological Information System (SIT) in this process.

An extensive analysis of prevention measures implemented by SIGAUS member companies is presented in the ‘Environmental Performance’ section. This section also provides information on the universal waste oil collection service provided by the network of management companies collaborating with the entity over the past year, together with the various treatments used to transform the waste into new products. The chapter culminates with an infographic on the environmental benefits of proper waste oil management.
During 2022, SIGAUS carried out outstanding communication work, as detailed in the ‘Social Performance’ section. This activity includes corporate publications, media relations, a strong social media presence and participation in relevant industry events. Likewise, it highlights entity’s important social contribution which is materialised through initiatives such as the training project ‘SIGAUS Environmental Classroom’, the reforestation initiative ‘SIGAUS Forests’ and its contribution to various socially-minded foundations.

Informative videos
As a new feature, and with the aim of enriching the user experience and generating informative content in an audiovisual format, the latest edition of the Report includes the creation of six informative videos in which various aspects related to SIGAUS' activity are addressed: from its work as a leading Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility (SCRAP) in the management of waste oil, providing specific data on its activity in 2022, to addressing issues such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), or its social and environmental initiatives to contribute to improving social welfare.
A commitment to transparency
For yet another year, in the process of preparing the Annual Report, SIGAUS followed the guidelines established by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), recognised as the international standard of reference in the preparation of this type of report, applying the Universal Standards in force as of 1 January 2023. As in the past, the publication has been verified by an independent consultant, EY, in line with the organisation's accountability practices and its commitment to transparency, efficiency and the responsible management of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
